A design sketch for a kinetic gate for a castle in Germany. After about 6 different concepts were explored this one was prototyped in lego to study the movement and forces necessary.
The gate was supposed to be easily operated by a pedestrian, who could just push it around its vertical axis at night when it is closed. During the day the gate would open guided by two levers and fold away behind the existing wall of the castle that could not be changed.
